Ernestine “Tina” Foster Harvill passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.
Tina was born in Baldwin, Georgia on August 24, 1939, and was 76 years old. She was the daughter of Mary Lucille Foster (Purcell) of Cornelia, Georgia and the oldest grandchild of Gertrude and David Purcell of Demorest, Georgia.
She is survived by her son, Tony James Harvill; two granddaughters, Sarah Marie Harvill and Barbara Lucille Harvill; a brother, Larry James Foster; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended Purcell relatives.
Ernestine was a teacher by profession and taught in the Athens and Decatur areas for most of her career before retiring. She taught at both the college and high school levels but her passion was at the elementary school, where she taught 4th and 5th graders for the majority of her career. She was a gifted pianist and played the organ for her church most of her working life before retiring to an assisted living home and then moving to Texas to live with her son and granddaughters.
She was returned from Texas where she had resided for the last several years and will be buried next to her mother at Mountain View Baptist Church in Baldwin on Saturday, July 30, 2016. A small private family service will be held at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel prior to the burial.
