Mr. Ernest W. Nations, Jr., age 80, native and lifelong resident of Habersham County, Georgia went home to be with his Lord Sunday, November 29, 2015.
Mr. Nations was born in Clarkesville, Georgia on January 3, 1935, a son of the late Ernest W. Nations, Sr. and Edna Williams Nations. Preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law Rev. Erford and Lurlene Mote; brother and sister-in-law, Carlos and Jean Nations; brothers-in-law J.W. Rice and Maxie Mote; niece Sandra Rice Eller; nephews Alex Tench, Jason Mote, Shayne Mote and Clayton Coleman.
Mr. Nations served as Clerk of Court for 32 years in Habersham County; taught school in the Habersham School System for 13 years, served as Chairmen of the Board of Supervisors for the Upper-Chattahoochee Soil & Water Conservation for 25 years; served as High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons; served as treasurer for the Rural Conservation and Development (RC&D); was a member of Stonepile Baptist Church serving as past Chairman of the Deacon Board, Secretary and Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher for youth and adults. Mr. Nations’ lifelong love was farming, and he shared this passion with his family and friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Lois Mote Nations; daughters and sons-in-law Janet and Joseph Stover and their children, Joey, Jarad, Jaron and Joze Stover of Clarkesville; and Nancy and Tim Collins and their children, Jordan, Rachel and Thomas Collins of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law Ernest III and Cheri Nations and their children, Catriana, Briana, Ariana, and Ernest IV Nations of Buford; and Eric and Noy Nations and their children, Blake and Erika Nations of Clarkesville; brother Phillip and Vivian Nations of Hollywood; sisters Oveline Rice of Clarkesville; Evelyn and Dewayne Forlines of Alexandria, Alabama; JoAnn Moore; and Barbara and Ron Mote of Demorest.
The family would like to thank all the family, friends and Hospice staff and volunteers for the love and care shown to Mr. Nations and his family during the last few years. We believe that one of the Hospice staff said it best of his life and his final days…. “He took such pleasure in his family…he must have felt pure contentment…a time to let go. A dignified gentleman all the way.”
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Bethel Temple C.H. in Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Wayne Hicks, Rev. Scotty Poole, and Geofrey Dillard. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
