Ellon R. Roberts

Ellon R. Roberts, born Mary Ellon Reynolds in May of 1933 in Jefferson, Georgia, was the daughter of the late Daisy Dimple Allen Reynolds and Leonard Lester Reynolds and the older sister of the late Mildred Reynolds Wilford, Charles Reynolds, Jimmy Reynolds, and the only surviving sibling, Larry Michael Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Roberts. She departed from this life on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the age of 89.

She is survived by her three children, Julie R. Palmour (Jim) of Clarkesville, Georgia, Kenny Roberts of Sautee, Georgia, and David Roberts (Courtney) of Seagrove Beach, Florida; her six grandchildren, Callie Parker (Eric) of Switzerland, Virginia Palmour of Clarkesville, GA, Caroline Palmour-Mazzocchi of Clarkesville, GA, James Roberts (Ali) of Naperville, IL, Cade Roberts of Tampa, FL, and Libby of Seagrove Beach, FL; her five great-grandchildren: Lillian and Margaret, both of Switzerland, James of Charlotte, NC, and Griffin and Murphy of Naperville, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Ellon grew up in the Athens, Georgia area with her siblings and met her husband while taking tickets at a local movie theater. After they married, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii while Kenneth served in the Army Honor Guard at the “Punchbowl”, a cemetery honoring men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces. Subsequently, the Roberts family moved back to the mainland living in Athens and Savannah, Georgia, Hollywood Hills, and Ormand Beach, Florida, and finally settling in the late ’60s in Griffin, Georgia, where they lived together for over 50 years.

Ellon worked in several capacities outside the home; as an administrative assistant and insurance representative for Crawford and Company Insurance, as administrative support to researchers at the Georgia Experiment Station, and as the Materials Management Director for Griffin-Spalding County Hospital (AMI and then Tenet) for over 20 years before retiring in 2001. Ellon earned her Associate’s Degree at Gordon Junior College in Barnesville, GA, making a 4.0 in her classes and demonstrating her dedication to lifelong learning. She showed support for her three children and later her grand and great-grandchildren, attending dance recitals, ball games, and family events. Ellon was a long-time member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin and served on the altar guild.

In recent years, Ellon moved from her home in Griffin to Clarkesville, GA, to be near her children, where she enjoyed the quiet and peace of the North Georgia Mountains. Ellon wished to be laid to rest with a graveside service in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, in the Roberts Family Plot. She would love to be remembered as a woman of faith, truth, commitment to family, and a seeker of knowledge. She was an avid reader, loved playing dominoes with friends in Griffin, and traveled when she could throughout the United States. She will be missed and always loved by her family and friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Bonaventure Cemetery, with Father John Patrick Hunt officiating.
