The Elbert County Detention Center is implementing a new policy for the public and inmates.
The detention center now will no longer accept hand-to-hand transactions from the public, including cash, debit or credit payments for detainee accounts. The policy change is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and operational efficiency at the facility, according to officials.
As an alternative, the detention center has installed a self-service Deposit ATM in the front lobby. Visitors can now deposit funds directly into detainee accounts using this new system, which, the sheriff’s office says, offers a streamlined and user-friendly experience.
Officials say the installation of the new ATM came at no cost to the taxpayers of Elbert County.
“The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the community’s understanding and patience as it implements this improvement,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release. “These updates aim to enhance the safety and efficiency of the facility while ensuring a more convenient process for families and friends of detainees.”
