Elaine Irvin joins Now Habersham

Now Habersham is thrilled to announce the addition of Elaine Irvin to our reporting staff. In addition to her years of journalism experience, Elaine brings with her a passion for writing and a heart for our community.

A graduate of the University of Georgia with a Master’s degree from Georgia State University, Elaine’s first career was in speech and language pathology, working in school systems and then in her private practice serving seven counties. In 1993 she served as president of the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association. After her children were born, she left that profession and began writing for Missions Mosaic, a Southern Baptist women’s magazine for which she wrote for five years.

An interest in news writing led Elaine to the local, bi-weekly Northeast Georgian newspaper where she worked for six years. During her time at the paper she covered everything from city council and county commission to festivals and human interest stories. Elaine is well-known for her feature writing and was recognized by the Georgia Press Association for a humor column she wrote. After leaving the local newspaper, she went to work for the Anderson Independent-Mail.

A resident of Clarkesville, Elaine has been a church worker in deaf ministry for nearly 20 years. Her husband is Habersham County native David Irvin and the couple has two children, Stephanie and Brian.

Elaine shares Now Habersham’s firm belief that Community Matters and she’ll be out there working hard to bring your community matters to you. Please join us in welcoming Elaine Irvin to the Now Habersham family.
