(Cleveland)- White County has it’s 8th confirmed rabies case for the year. White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan said on Monday a dog was observed by its owner chasing a raccoon around the yard in the Holiness Campground Road area of White County.

He said the dog caught the raccoon and killed it. The dog owner called to report the incident immediately. The specimen was sent to the Georgia Public Health Laboratory, Virology Section in Decatur and the environmental health office was notified Tuesday that it was a positive case.

According to Sullivan, the dog involved was a stray that had taken up residence about a month ago, there was no evidence of current or previous rabies vaccination. He said the dog must undergo a strict four-month quarantine.
