Edward James Brown

Edward James Brown, age 96, moved to Georgia in 2021 from San Antonio, Texas, and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Born at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, on July 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Lee and Neille Cooper Brown. Ed was an Eagle Boy Scout, a graduate of the University of Texas, a professional engineer, and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas, where he served as the county engineer. Ed was an ordained deacon, and when they lived in San Antonio, he and his wife, Alice, led Bible studies in their home that they called “Searching the Scriptures.”

Ed Brown was a wonderful Christian husband, father, grandfather, & great-grandfather. He was a member of Brookhill Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, his wife of 72 years, Alice Stewart Brown, and his son, Steve Brown.

Survivors include his daughter, Pennie and husband Randy, son, Darrell & wife Cindy, daughter, Lori & husband Rod, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, other relatives & friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, with Rev. Dr. Susan Martin-Taylor officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11 am, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, with Rev. Dr. Adam Erwin, former Navy Chaplain, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
