The Easton Foundation announced Tuesday that they will hold their 8th “Battle of the Heroes” charity flag football game on August 14th at Habersham Central High School. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Raider Stadium with first responders from Habersham County and Banks County taking on first responders from Hall County in the flag football game. The evening will be capped off shortly after the conclusion of the game with a 30-minute long Fireworks Extravaganza.
The Easton Foundation hosted the Battle of the Heroes Event for seven consecutive years until the 2020 game had to be canceled due to COVID-19.
“With what everyone has had to go through the last 15-18 months, we are extremely excited to be able to bring back the Battle of the Heroes game,” says the foundation’s board of directors chairman Glenn Ingram. “This year has the potential to be the best event yet, and we are happy to be able to bring this event back.”
The Easton Foundation had to make the difficult decision in 2020 to cancel the Battle of the Heroes just weeks before the event because of changes in the climate of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time.
“This has been a trying time for everyone in our community, but we are excited to see what this year’s event could have in store,” says Easton Foundation President Casey Lizama. “We continue to grow the Battle of the Heroes Game and the Easton Foundation each year, and this year is no different.”
A night of remembrance and celebration
As in years past, the evening will begin with pre-game festivities by public address announcer Devin Thompson. The pre-game ceremonies will include the National Anthem, introducing some of the VIP guests, and more.
At halftime of the game, The Easton Foundation will once again put on a Circle of Honor Ceremony in order to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting our community and nation both domestic and abroad. Halftime will also include presentations from members of the Easton Foundation explaining the mission of the Easton Foundation for the Northeast Georgia community.
Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game for the Fireworks Extravaganza, a 30-minute fireworks display. The Fireworks Extravaganza will begin around 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game.
The Battle of the Heroes game is the main event for the Easton Foundation that began in 2013 and has been put on and grown each year.
The Easton Foundation 501 (c)(3) is based out of Habersham County. After losing Easton Singleton, a beloved friend and teen to a car accident in 2012, the community rallied together to turn tragedy into triumph. Lizama established The Easton Foundation shortly after his friend’s passing as a way to help other teens with pain and loss, and also encourage youth to connect with their community and become leaders.
The foundation not only provides assistance in times of need but also awards numerous scholarships to help teens in the northeast Georgia community pursue their dreams of higher education.
