State and local authorities are investigating an early morning shooting on Easter Sunday in Toccoa. According to police, shots rang out on Whitman Street shortly after midnight, injuring two people.
“Our officers responded and administered first aid ’til EMS arrived. One [victim] had a chest wound and one was [shot] in the stomach. After transport, our officers secured the scene,” Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize tells Now Habersham.
Mize asked the GBI to assist with the Toccoa Police Department’s investigation.
GBI Director of Public Affairs Nelly Miles says the two who were shot were taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and released.
Authorities have not released any other details or a motive for the shooting. Chief Mize says that currently, there are no suspects, and no arrests have been made. Miles says the investigation is active and ongoing.
