Early voting continues in statewide PSC primary

(GPB News)

Early voting for the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) special primary election is currently underway and runs through June 13.

Voters across the state are going to the polls to decide primaries for the District 2 and District 3 seats currently held by Republicans Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson, respectively. Both incumbents are running for re-election to the five-person board.

Echols, of Jefferson, faces opposition from Lee Muns of Harlem for the District 2 GOP nomination. Johnson is running unopposed in his district’s primary.

And then there were three…

On the Democratic side, Alicia Johnson is the sole Democrat running for the District 2 seat.

The crowded District 3 Democratic primary got whittled down to three candidates on Wednesday when Daniel Blackman was disqualified. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger agreed with an administrative court ruling that Blackman did not meet the residency qualifications to run for the seat.

The other candidates vying for the seat are Keisha Sean Waites and Peter Hubbard, both of Atlanta, and Robert Jones of DeKalb County.

Early voting began Tuesday with Blackman’s name on ballots statewide. If Blackman’s ban is permanent, notices will be placed in polling places advising voters of his disqualification, Raffensperger’s office said.

What to know about voting

This is a partisan primary, so voters must choose either a Democratic or Republican ballot.

You can find early voting locations and hours by checking with your local county election board. You can also visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s Elections Division website for more information.

The primary winners from each party will face off in the general election in November.
