Applications are still being accepted for this year’s Miss Mountain Laurel Pageant. Contestants who apply before Friday, April 1st receive $10 off their entry fee.
Contestants will compete in ten different age categories: Baby Miss (ages 6 mo. – 14 mo.), Toddler Miss (15 mo. – 23 mo.), Tiny Miss (24 mo. – 35 mo.), Wee Miss (3-4 year olds), Little Miss (5-6 years old), Petite Miss (7-8 years old), Young Miss (9-10 years old), Pre-Teen Miss (11-12 years old), Teen Miss (13-15 years old) and Miss (16-19 years old).
This is the 53rd year for the pageant and organizers are hoping for a big turnout. “We are giving a cash scholarship this year in the Miss age division and we would like as many as possible to have the opportunity to compete,” says Hope Crawford, pageant volunteer and emcee. The winner of the Miss Division will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the College/Technical College of her choice if twelve or more contestants compete in this category. Pageant Director Chrissy Andrews says the scholarship was offered for the first time last year but not enough contestants competed and “due to lack of participation we were unable to award the scholarship.”
Entries will be accepted until April 15 but to save on your entry fee you must deliver or mail in your application no later than April 1, 2016.
EARLY ENTRY FEE $70, Siblings $50. LATE ENTRY FEE (postmarked after April 1, 2016) $80, Siblings $60. To qualify for the siblings discount contestants must be sisters/step-sisters/half-sisters/foster sisters. Siblings’ entries must be received in the same envelope.
Pageant rehearsal is April 22. The pageant will be held the following day, Saturday, April 23 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Habersham Ninth Grade Academy in Mt. Airy.
The Miss Mountain Laurel Pageant is sponsored by the Clarkesville Lions Club and all of the money raised will go to support the club’s mission of improving the quality of life for the seeing and hearing impaired. “Every dollar goes toward their goal of providing citizens of North Georgia (many individuals here in Habersham) eye glasses, eye exams, eye surgeries and refurbished hearing aides who need them but cannot afford them,” explains Andrews. “The Lions Club believes in serving the people in our community and by supporting this pageant, you are doing the same.”
