The Habersham County Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, February 6, giving out two prestigious awards to Noah and Marcia Hamil.

As Main Street Manager for the city of Cornelia, Noah Hamil was named the county’s Young Professional of the Year. His wife, Marcia Hamil, Marketing Coordinator for Wood’s Mercantile, was honored with the Professional Woman of the Year award.

This recognition comes just after Noah Hamil marked his second anniversary with the city of Cornelia, where he has quickly become an integral part of the community.

Actively engaged in community

Since joining the city, Noah has actively engaged in various local initiatives, serving on the Habersham County Library Board, as a Chamber Ambassador and Young Professional’s Steering Committee member. He also contributes to the Cornelia Hospitality and Tourism Board.

Noah is an alum of the Leadership Habersham Class of 2024 and recently served as a team captain for the Chamber’s new fundraising campaign for 2025.

“Being named Young Professional of the Year made all of the work accomplished feel noticed and appreciated,” Noah expressed about being honored with the award. He described the last two years as some of the toughest years of his life. “But I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I have grown in building relationships, public speaking, and being more professional in general.”

In his role as Main Street Manager, Noah oversees a wide range of programs and services, including the Downtown Development Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, Small Business Development, Historic Site operations, and special events.

Cornelia’s Community Development Director, Jessie Owensby, works with Hamil daily. She emphasized his contributions and his strong work ethic. “He grows in his skill sets daily and is building relationships and leading collaborative initiatives throughout our downtown. He is definitely going to be one of our future leaders in Habersham County. We are very proud to have him,” Owensby said.

Professional Woman of the Year

Noah was not the only Hamil to whom the Habersham Chamber of Commerce awarded a prestigious honor. His wife, Marcia Hamil, took home the honor of Professional Woman of the Year. Marcia has been the Marketing Director for Wood’s Mercantile for one year this month. She is the Chair for Habersham Professional Women, Co-Chair for Habersham Young Professionals, an Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, and part of the Leadership Habersham Class 2025.

“I felt a great sense of gratitude to be selected for this award,” Marcia described her feelings for being chosen. “I’m proud of where I’m from and excited to see continued growth in the coming years.”

Kevin Wood, owner of Wood’s Mercantile, was not surprised by the award. “Marcia is an amazing person and has an infectious personality. She loves the community and works hard to promote it daily.” Wood explained how proud Wood’s Mercantile team was of Marcia. “I am so proud of her accomplishments and honored to be part of her story.”
