During the Wait

There’s a girl waiting at a bus stop.  Bus after bus goes by, and she is waiting.  She does nothing. She doesn’t get up to ask the attendant behind the window about her ticket. She doesn’t look at the screen that shows the times and destinations for the next few buses.  She just sits there waiting.

This girl was me the past few months.  I felt like God was calling me to make a change in my life, and I had been waiting on confirmation and an answer.  I was to the point that I felt like my bus was never going to come.

Have you ever been there?  Waiting. Hopeless. Helpless. Tired.

One Monday night in November, I was watching The Voice on NBC.  Jordan Smith came on to sing “Great is Thy Faithfulness”.  I felt like God had him select that song to sing just for me. If you haven’t watched him sing this song yet, stop what you are doing and watch this video. It is beautiful and will give you chills. It was not the same song I remembered singing in church.  It was as if God was talking directly to me through it.

“Great is Thy faithfulness!”

“Great is Thy faithfulness!”

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided –

“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!

God reminded me that He is faithful. He reminded me that he will provide for all of my needs. God’s timing is perfect, not mine.  I needed to remind myself that even during the wait, God is faithful. Even during the times where I feel like I don’t know where to go or what to do, God is faithful and He will provide.

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along.” (Romans 8:26 MSG)

 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)

The girl at the bus stop? Her daddy is sitting right beside her. She doesn’t have to ask questions or look at the sign about the next bus. She puts her trust in her daddy that when her bus comes, He will guide her to it. Some of you are probably in the middle of your wait right now. You might be waiting on answers for your job, your family, your health, your home, your finances, or many other things. I challenge you to call out to God and remind yourself that “Great is Thy faithfulness!” We might not be able to see the end picture, but God is working it out for our good.
