Duncan endorses term limits for office of lieutenant governor

Today, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan announced his support for an effort to term limit the Office of Lt. Governor to two consecutive four-year terms.

A press release issued by Duncan’s office says Senator Greg Dolezal (R–27) will carry a proposed Constitutional Amendment to that effect. If the House and Senate pass the amendment by a two-thirds majority Georgians will get a chance to vote on it.

“I firmly believe that the Office of Lt. Governor should be term limited like the Office of Governor.” – Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan

Duncan says the office that he currently holds “is no place for academic tenure,”

“I firmly believe that the Office of Lt. Governor should be term limited like the Office of Governor,” he says. “Individuals elected to this office should focus solely on serving Georgians, and no Lt. Governor should consider this post a permanent home.”

If the measure is approved during next year’s legislative session, the ballot question would be put before voters during the 2020 general election.
