State fire investigators say a dryer left on overnight led to the deaths of three Elberton residents.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, trapping the residents inside the house.

When firefighters arrived, they found the residence fully involved with flames. After containing the fire, they entered the home and found all three occupants dead.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a fire scene examination and determined a dryer that was left operating overnight caused the fatal fire. They ruled the fire as accidental.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted the Elbert County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
