Officials say a driver who was injured in a wreck on GA-365 Wednesday morning may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.
63-year-old Billy Ernest Craven of Clarkesville was injured in the wreck around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of GA-365 South and Hazel Creek Road.
The State Patrol says a witness reported the driver, later identified as Craven, “passed him at a high rate of speed and appeared to be having a medical emergency.”
The 2006 Lexus GS he was driving ran off the west shoulder of the road and struck a sign and guardrail. It then ran down an embankment and overturned striking several trees. The vehicle landed on its passenger side in the woods.
Craven was trapped inside the vehicle. First responders extricated him. Habersham EMS transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with visible injuries.
