Vehicle catches fire on GA 197, sparking woods fire

A driver and passenger escaped injury after the vehicle they were riding in caught fire on GA 197 south of Clarkesville. According to Habersham County spokesperson Rob Moore, the flames sparked a woods fire.

The incident happened around 3:20 p.m. on September 11 in the area of North Mize Road.

Firefighters from Habersham County and Clarkesville responded to the scene, along with an ambulance.

Habersham County sheriff’s deputies temporarily closed a section of the highway as firefighters extinguished the flames. No one was injured.
