A driver was killed and six people were injured in a multi-vehicle wreck on Winder Highway (GA 53) in south Hall County, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The wreck happened on Saturday August 10, at around 4:31 p.m. in the area of Strickland Road in front of the Ingles Grocery Store.
GSP said Juan de Dios Ramirez, 63, of Gainesville, was driving a Honda HR-V eastbound in the westbound lanes of the divided highway.
The HR-V hit a GMC Acadia head-on, causing it to overturn. The driver of the Acadia, Kyle Fendlay, 52, of Manchester, Maryland, and his wife and four children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A Toyota Camry driven by Andy Mijangos, 21, of Lawrenceville, was following the GMC Acadia and swerved to miss the wreck. The Toyota Camry traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a curb. Mijangos was uninjured.
Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. The westbound lanes of Winder Highway were closed for approximately two hours while GSP investigated the wreck. GSP said impairment is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.
