GA 105/Cannon Bridge Road in Cornelia is back open to thru traffic. A section of the road was closed for nearly two hours Monday after an accident involving an overturned dump truck.

The accident happened around noon in the 900 block of Cannon Bridge Road near the Mustard Seed Counseling Center.

TFC Vance Henry with Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa says the truck was traveling southeast on Cannon Bridge Road when it ran off the right shoulder of the road. As the driver attempted to get the vehicle back onto the roadway, the asphalt he was carrying shifted, causing the truck to overturn. The truck wound up on its side in the northwest lane and the asphalt spilled onto the road.

The driver, who was later identified as Kenneth Shealy, was trapped inside the cab of the truck. Habersham Emergency Services and Cornelia Fire Department personnel had to extricate him from the wreckage. Habersham EMS transported him to the hospital by ambulance.

People inside the counseling center near where the accident happened rushed to the scene and prayed for the driver as emergency personnel worked to free him.

Cannon Bridge Road between Cap Fry Road and Midway Drive was temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
