Driver distracted by spilled coffee faces possible charges in serious injury wreck

Moments before his GMC Sierra pickup rear-ended a Jeep Comanche, Nicholas Reynolds spilled a cup of coffee. He later told a Georgia State Trooper he was reaching for the spilled coffee cup when the accident happened.

Now the 34-year-old Lavonia man faces possible charges in connection with that wreck.

The State Patrol says Reynolds was distracted and following too closely when his pickup struck the Jeep while traveling northbound on GA 17 Friday in Stephens County. The impact caused the Jeep to spin out and overturn.

The driver of the Jeep, 60-year-old Thomas Bush of Eastanollee, was seriously injured. He was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. His current condition is not known. Authorities say Reynolds sustained possible injuries but did not go to the hospital. Charges are now pending against him.
