Driver charged with vehicular homicide in Athens wreck

Authorities have charged a Madison County woman with 2nd-degree vehicular homicide in a fatal wreck in Athens in June.

Athens-Clarke County Police arrested 38-year-old Keosha Martin of Hull and charged her in the death of Linda Motichek, 70, of Winterville, Georgia.

Police say Martin was driving a Honda Accord northbound on Cherokee Road early in the morning of June 17 when she crossed over the center line. The Accord collided with the southbound Toyota Corolla that Motichek was driving.

Motichek died at the scene.

According to police, Martin was taken to a local hospital with multiple injuries that did not appear life-threatening. A juvenile in the Accord was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

In addition to the vehicular homicide charge, authorities also charged Martin with failure to maintain lane.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department continues its investigation into the crash. Police ask anyone with information to contact Master Police Officer Denmark at 762-400-7364 or [email protected].

This is the ninth fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2023.
