A Clarkesville driver faces charges after troopers say she rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 115 Tuesday afternoon.

The two-vehicle accident west of Clarkesville happened shortly before 1 p.m. on June 4. The crash sent one vehicle down an embankment, where it overturned.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s preliminary accident report, both vehicles were northbound. One was stopped waiting to make a lefthand turn onto Heartland Drive when a vehicle driven by Angel Stewart rear-ended it, troopers say.

The 38-year-old Stewart “braked aggressively and swerved to the right,” striking the stopped vehicle, the report says. “It traveled onto the shoulder and down an embankment, overturning.”

In an updated report released Wednesday, June 5, the State Patrol clarified it was Stewart’s Subaru Forester that overturned. The Kia Rio she struck was driven by 29-year-old Caiden Joseph Letner of Cleveland.

The Habersham County Public Information Office says no one from either vehicle was transported for injuries.

State troopers charged Stewart with DUI, following too closely, and possession of an open container.

The wreck temporarily shut down both lanes of travel. It occurred in the same general area where a Toccoa man was killed in a crash last week.
