Driver charged with DUI after head-on collision with motorcycle

A Winder man was arrested and charged with DUI following a head-on collision with a motorcycle Saturday night in Baldwin.

The Georgia State Patrol says 68-year-old Robert Wallace of Winder was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina the wrong way on GA-15 near Professional Drive. The car struck a 1999 Kawasaki head-on then struck a 2005 Toyota Tacoma on the passenger side.

The Tacoma was driven by Blong Lee, 49, of Commerce. The Kawasaki was driven by William Etheredge, 25, of Washington, Georgia. Etheredge was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash. Wallace was transported to Habersham Medical Center for complaint of injury.

In addition to DUI, the State Patrol charged Wallace with having an open container, suspended registration, no insurance and other traffic violations.

The accident happened around 8:15 p.m. on May 23, four hours after another accident involving a motorcycle killed two people in Rabun County.

Eleven people have died in automobile accidents on Georgia’s roads so far this Memorial Day holiday weekend. The 78-hour long holiday travel period officially ends at midnight tonight.
