Driver charged with DUI after crashing near Rabun County Library

State troopers charged a Clayton man with DUI after he wrecked near the Rabun County Library Saturday afternoon.

According to the preliminary accident report, Joseph John Durkin, 71, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu westbound on GA 2/Hwy. 76. He lost control of the car while negotiating a curve near Jo Dotson Circle. The car ran off the road and struck a power pole, then overturned onto its driver’s side.

The crash happened around 2:13 p.m. on July 1. Durkin sustained possible minor injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the crash. In addition to DUI, the responding trooper charged Durkin with failure to maintain lane.
