A Cornelia man is in jail charged in connection with a weekend accident that left one man seriously injured.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Department says 20-year old Marcos Andres Gaspar is being held in the county jail on numerous charges including DUI, underage consumption, possession of an open alcohol container, driving on an expired or no drivers license, reckless driving, failure to maintain insurance and serious injury by vehicle.
Officials say Gaspar was driving a Honda Civic north on South Main Street in Cornelia when he lost control of the car in a curve and hit an embankment. The accident happened just after 5 p.m. Sunday. One passenger was thrown from the car and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Gaspar and two other passengers were taken to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.
