Dr. Wayne W. Schroyer, 88, of Clarkesville, Georgia, peacefully entered the Lord’s presence surrounded by loved ones, in his final days on July 7th, 2019 following a long illness.
Born May 31st, 1931, in Celina, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leslie and Mabel (Spriggs) Schroyer.
After graduating from South Akron High School, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. His service to his country informed his decision to study medicine. With an honorable discharge, Wayne completed his undergraduate degree at Kent State University and then his Medical Doctorate from Ohio State University. Wayne completed his pediatric residency with Akron Children’s Hospital then opened a private practice in Ravenna, Ohio. His medical career spanned almost sixty years, primarily specializing in pediatric medicine.
In the later part of his life, Wayne became a born-again Southern Baptist Christian and served as a Deacon at the Hollywood Baptist Church where he devoted many hours to serving God and others, especially to those in need through Meals on Wheels. Wayne loved to spend time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was fond of crossword puzzles, reading, golfing, restoring antique cars.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Schroyer is preceded in death by brother Robert Schroyer, his daughter Holly Beth Schroyer, and stepson Danny Wood. Survivors include his wife Lois Wood-Schroyer of Clarkesville, daughters and sons in law Jill Schroyer and Don Ketteler of New York, NY, Betsy and Tracy Moon of Cumming and Debbie and Ricky Broadus of Clarkesville, sons and daughters in law Scott and Lisa Schroyer of Bradenton, FL and Brett and LeAnn Schroyer of Lawrenceville, sister and brother in law Linda and Clifford Martin of Wadsworth, OH as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dr. Wayne Wesley Schroyer, age 88 of Clarkesville, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Hollywood Baptist Church. Interment to follow the service in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM.
