The students of Hazel Grove Elementary School brought in their nickels and dimes for weeks to cast a vote for principal Dr. Tim Goss or assistant principal Sandy Todd. The one with the least amount of votes would be the one to get a pie in the face.
The votes were carefully tallied as students gathered around, waiting to hear the final results.
Dr. Goss fell short by around $40 to the excited shouts of little girls who had worked hard to give Todd the win.
The event was held at Hazel Grove Elementary in Mt. Airy on October 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It was a night of sack races, crafts, kissing booths, and cake walks. Many a parent remarked as they walked around the school, “This is how it used to be.”
Face painters, bounce houses, and bingo were only some of the games students enjoyed. They made crafts, explored a corn maze, ate hotdogs and hamburgers, and spent time with their families.
Time seemed to be lingering in a past of old-fashioned fun and simplicity.
Live music played as children ran from one booth to another.
“This is what it should be all about,” one parent said. “Hazel Grove is truly a unique place. I’m glad my children are here.”
