After 26 years of working in the sports industry, including nearly five years as Director of Athletics and a Business professor at Truett McConnell University (TMU), Dr. Stacy Hall has announced his resignation from TMU effective June 30, 2017.
Hall, who is in his first term on the Habersham County Board of Commissioners, will pursue a new role with Hall & Company, a real estate development and consulting company he and his wife, Ivy, started in 2015.
“Being athletic director at Truett McConnell University has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” said Hall. “Over the past four-plus years, we have been able to change our athletic department from a participatory culture to a championship culture that pursues excellence in discipleship, academics, servant leadership and athletic performance.
Hall also says that he will continue to serve as a Habersham County Commissioner and seek out other opportunities where God can use him.
After being hired at TMU as the Director of Annual Giving and Grant Development in January 2012, Hall was named Director of Athletics in January 2013. During his time in the position, Hall has seen TMU Athletics soar to unprecedented heights, including ranking twice in the top 3 in the NAIA Champions of Character Initiative back-to-back years, ranking third in 2014-15 and second in 2015-16.
Under his direction, TMU has seen the number of NAIA Scholar Athletes grow by 400 percent and Academic All-Conference honorees grow by over 300 percent since 2012-13. He also has helped in constructing five athletic facilities including the brand new George Blaurock Student Wellness Center, which is nearing completion. In addition, the athletic department has doubled its scholarship money during Hall’s tenure.
Athletically, Hall has hired 11 head coaches during his time at TMU, including multiple coaches with experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels. During his tenure, each athletic team has set new all-time wins records as a four-year collegiate program in addition to increasing All-Conference and NAIA honorees yearly. The athletic department has also had three Wooden Cup semifinalists and five student-athletes sign to play professionally in their respective sports.
TMU student-athletes have also averaged nearly six thousand hours of community service yearly, including going on mission trips globally under Hall’s direction.
“Dr. Hall’s leadership has proved invaluable to our athletic program,” said Truett McConnell President Dr. Emir Caner. “While he is quick to acknowledge the success in athletics is due to our coaches and staff, I want to take a moment to personally say thank you to this godly man who has worked so diligently to give our coaches a platform to succeed.”
“The future of TMU Athletics is very bright,” said Hall. “The athletic facilities, scholarship funding and top-notch coaching are all in place to continue to build upon recent success.”
Prior to his tenure at TMU, Hall spent 20 years working in athletic administration, sports marketing, sponsorship sales and multimedia management, all at the collegiate level. Most recently, Hall worked with IMG College, serving as Conference Vice President, where he oversaw multimedia rights to 11 different properties within the Southeastern Conference (SEC) that exceeded $114 million in annual sales.
“While I am excited about the next chapter of my life, I will always continue to pull for the Bears,” said Hall.
Hall will continue to work at Truett McConnell throughout the remainder of the semester before transitioning to his new role.
