Dr. David W. Peck, age 91 of Demorest, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Whitwell, Tennessee on September 17, 1925, he was a son of the late Wiley Bruce Peck and Mildred Shippey Peck. Dr. Peck was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church.
During his career as a research chemist, Dr. Peck contributed to production of new insecticides, the beneficial effects of which included amelioration of crop infestations that had led to devastating famines in some parts of the world. He was active in the United Methodist church throughout his life. He was a leader in his community in advancement of good race relations during a time of racial strife.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Peck was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Knight Peck; sons, Robert L. Peck and Dr. Eric Peck; brothers, Hugh Peck and Bruce Peck, Jr.
Surviving are daughter, Dr. Lorna P. Charles of Summit, NJ; daughter-in-law, Susanna Peck of Olathe, KS; sister, Joyce Tewksbury of Gloucester, VA; grandchildren, Dr. Grace Charles Tassa, her husband, David of Los Angeles, CA, Andrew Peck, Daniel Peck, and Michael Peck all of Olathe, KS, and Nicholas Charles of Summit, NJ.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 pm Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Cornelia United Methodist Church. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy. A graveside service will be held at the Knight family cemetery afterward.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday just prior to the service.
