Dozens of families found a fun way to beat the summer heat in Habersham Friday at Clarkesville’s Downtown Splashdown! The event was hosted by Clarkesville Main Street. It featured water slides, a bounce house and fire hydrant sprinkler opened wide for all to enjoy. The summer evening air was filled with squeals of delight, music and lots of laughter. If the sight of giddy kids playing on the city square doesn’t make you smile, perhaps the rainbows will. There were lots of them captured on camera as the late August sun beamed through the misty air.
Downtown Splashdown! is the latest Friday Night Live event to be held in Clarkesville. The monthly events are aimed at encouraging people to shop and eat downtown and enjoy all this northeast Georgia town has to offer.

Downtown Splashdown made a splash!
Clarkesville firefighters played a big role in the evening’s success. They managed the popular fire hydrant sprinkler and cooked hot dogs to keep the hungry kids fed. Will Lockwood (center) and Jan Devereaux (far right) were among the many volunteers who helped out.
Cotton Candy was provided by North Georgia Shutter and Blind. Habersham Mothers of PreSchoolers (MOPS) – a ministry at Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia – provided lemonade.
Steady…steady…
