Firefighters had their hands full overnight when a tree knocked down a power line onto Highway 17 in the Fairview community in west Habersham. The toppled line caught on fire, forcing crews to shut down a section of the road for nearly two hours.
Personnel from the Amy’s Creek Fire Station were called to the scene at Fairview Gravel just north of Blue Creek Road around 12:45 a.m. They extinguished the fire and HEMC linemen restored the downed line.
All lanes of traffic reopened just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
