Dorothy G. Perry

A Celebration of Life service for Dorothy G. Perry of Gainesville, Georgia, will be held on Saturday May 30th at 11 am at Grace Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville, Georgia. A reception will follow the service in St Julian Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Perry died Monday, April 13, 2015.  Dottie was born March 20, 1922 in Christ Church Barbados (BWI), the daughter of Archibald and Marjorie (Gwen) Gordon. She emigrated in 1924 through Ellis Island, NY with her brother Woodley and grew up in Kansas with her family.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Albert, her brother Woodley and husband James Earl Grimes (1920-1975).  She was the last of her generation—the “greatest generation”, having lived through the Great Depression of 1929, World War II and numerous personal challenges.

Surviving are her three daughters, Kathi (Byron) Hall of Nashville, TN, Patricia Kachinsky of Battle Creek, MI, and Jaime Huffman and husband Mike Peart of Demorest, GA; (12) Grandchildren: James (Laurel) Hall, Jon Hall, Julie (Darren) Decker and Stephanie Hall; Hollie (Keith) Mercier, Heidi Higgins, Amy (Emil) Kreycik, Steffen Kachinsky and Samuel Kachinsky; Nick (Georgina) Peart, Alex (Amy) Peart and Ross (Jade) Peart; (15) great-grandchildren: Liam, Sierra, Ben, Drew, Matthew, Emma, Hayden, Summer, John Austin, Averi, Noah, Caspar, Henry, Connor and Freddie; and many other beloved family, friends and caregivers.

Dottie was fun-loving, enjoyed travel, sewing, crafts and writing. She was a darn-good poet, avid bridge player and embraced technology that kept her in touch with family and her friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to cherished organizations: Halcyon Hospice of Cumming, Georgia, Grace Calvary Outreach Ministries, Habitat for Humanity of NE Georgia or the American Cancer Society.
