Doris Vernell Stockton Mize

Doris Vernell Stockton Mize, age 90 of Clarkesville, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

Born in Stephens County on June 9, 1930, Vernell was the daughter of the late Elam F. and Clara Minyard Stockton. Mrs. Mize attended Demorest High School where she played on the Basketball team. Mrs. Mize was a homemaker and she and her late husband were truck farmers. She was a member of Stonepile Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mize is preceded in death by husband Arlin Edgar Mize, Jr., sister Betty Jean Allen, son in law Robert T. Burke, Jr., brothers in law Granville Mize and Martin Robinson, and sisters in law Wanda Stockton and Margaret Stockton.

Survivors include son and daughter in law Larry and Doris Ann Mize of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Joan and Phillip Morris of Banks County, son and daughter in law Terry and Lavern Mize of Clarkesville, brothers Jimmy Stockton of Clarkesville and Edward Stockton of Demorest, sisters Willie Mize of Mt. Airy, Margaret Dickerson (Marcel) of Mountain City, and Barbara Jo Robinson of Clayton, grandchildren Kerry Mize (Barbara) of Clarkesville, Kim Mize (Newana) of Clarkesville, Taylor Burke (Karen) of Clarkesville, Chris Burke (Heidi) of Clarkesville, John Mize (Coley) of Clarkesville and Tera Mize of Clarkesville, great-grandchildren Josh Mize, Jordan Mize, Anna Ruth Mize, James Stapleton, Emma Rae Burke, Lindsey Burke, Brady Burke, Jazlyn Burke, Tanner Ray McAllister, Ansley McAllister, Kate Mize and Luke Mize, great-great-grandchildren Hunter Dean, Haygen Mize, Elam Mize, Kinsley Moore, and Briar Mize as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 23, 2020, at Stonepile Baptist Church with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 5-8 PM.
