Habersham County’s 4th Annual Back to School Bash is just two weeks away and organizers say they’re in desperate need of donations. Clarkesville Main Street Manager Mary Beth Horton says school supply donations are way down this year and organizers are having to buy more than they’ve had to in the past. “At this point,” Horton says, “we are seeking monetary donations to help offset the cost of the supplies.”
The Back to School Bash is hosted annually by the Clarkesville and Cornelia Main Street programs. It began three years ago as a way to help financially strapped families get their kids ready for school. This year, close to 500 eligible children registered to receive free backpacks filled with school supplies.
Families not registered to receive backpacks may still join in the fun. There will be lots of FREE activities for parents and kids to enjoy including swimming, games, food, and a bounce house. Extra school supplies will be distributed and prizes will be awarded. Various health screenings and free haircuts will also be provided.
The Back to School Bash will be held Saturday, August 1st at 3 p.m. at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville.
