Donald R. Brown

Donald R. Brown, age 81, passed away at his home, Thursday, November 23rd.

He was born in Ossipee, North Carolina and moved to Clarkesville, Georgia in 1950 when his father transferred to newly opened Clarkesville Mill. He graduated from North Habersham High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Jewell Lovell, the love of his life for 62 years. He was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church where he served as Brotherhood President, Chairman of White Christmas Committee for many years, and as a deacon and member of Men’s Sunday School Boaz Class.

He was employed by Woodmen Life Insurance Company, first as a field representative in Habersham County, and then transferred to Watkinsville, Georgia as Area Manager of Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, and Gwinnett County for 15 years. He retired in 1998 and returned to Clarkesville.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter R. and Ada M. Brown; daughter, Kay Brown Rogers; sister, Glenda Lewallen; nephew, Lee Lewallen.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Lovell Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Brown Staples and Eddie Staples; granddaughter, Mackenzie Wells Staples; grandson, Carey Scott Pitts and wife, Georgia Grant Pitts; great grandchildren, Addie Bree Pitts, Sam Hogan Pitts, and Morgan MaGee Pitts; and extended family in Clarkesville and Greenesboro, North Carolina.

Funeral services 2 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Grady Walden and Rev. Tommy Childress officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday 4 to 6 pm.
