Donald A. “Don” Wheatley, Jr., age 46, of Demorest, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 following a long and courageous battle.

Don was born in Washington, Georgia.  He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Baldwin where he enjoyed playing the bass.

Don loved music, pottery, and folk-art.  He was an original member and “picker” with the Tallulah Falls Opry.  He could play any instrument that had a string.  Taking “everything in stride,” he will be remembered for his positive outlook, unique humor, and quick wit. 

Don is preceded in death by his grandparents, Van and Sue Bufford; and father in law, Reverend Charles Masters.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Robin Masters Wheatley of Demorest; two children, Mikayla Charlie Wheatley and Jacob Donald Wheatley, both of Demorest; parents, Donald and Barbara Wheatley of Washington; one brother, Jeremy Wheatley of Athens; grandparents, Stanley and Katherine Wheatley of Washington; and mother in law, Dorlyn Masters of Demorest.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday at Hillside.

A Celebration of Don’s life will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday in Hillside Memorial Chapel.  Reverend Jamie Harvey will officiate.  A graveside service will follow at 3:00 P.M. Friday afternoon in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, 3219 Metasville Road, Washington, Georgia. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Don’s family to assist with his medical expenses.  Donations may be made at any Habersham Federal Credit Union location.
