(LaGRANGE) – The Piedmont College men’s golf team used an outstanding round from Josh Desainto surge to a fourth-place finish at the USA South Tournament in LaGrange.
Junior Josh Desain fired 5-under 67 in his final round to tie for seventh in the 47-player field. His round of 5-under and 67 ties the Piedmont record for low score and round to par. He carded a career-best five birdies for his final round to go with an eagle three on the par-5 seventh hole.
DeSain’s 54-hole total of 216 and even par finish also are program records.
As a team, PC’s final round total of 294 was tied for second out of the nine teams in the field. Team champion Huntingdon was the only one better, coming in with a 285.
Outside of DeSain, the rest of the Lions continued to display consistency, with each player shooting in the 70’s.
Matthew Leemann Used a 1-under front nine and came in with a 75 to place 21st in the event.
After leading the team through the first two days, freshman Michael Clardy Cared a 4-over 76 to finish a career-best 15th.
Sophomore Christian Payne made four birdies to end his season with a 76, his best round of the tournament.
Piedmont’s fourth place finish at the USA South Tournament is its best in five years competing in the event.
