A Gainesville woman was arrested and jailed after allegedly causing her 2-year-old son to take a drug meant for adults.
Hall County Sheriff’s deputies took 30-year-old Cassandrah Gene Ravencraft into custody at her residence on Friday, November 1. They charged her with first-degree cruelty to children under the Family Violence Act.
According to the preliminary investigation, Ravencraft caused the toddler to ingest the medication Halcion. The drug is similar to Valium and is used to treat insomnia. It was prescribed for an adult. After taking the medication, the child was hospitalized for “an extended period”, according to Hall County Sheriff’s spokesperson Derreck Booth.
Medical officials notified the sheriff’s office when the child was taken to an area hospital for treatment on September 19.
The toddler has since recovered and is doing well, says Booth.
The case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Hall County Division of Family and Children Services.
Ravencraft remains in the Hall County jail without bond.
