Demorest man injured in weekend wreck in Hall County

A Demorest man escaped serious injury after his Jeep overturned in a wreck this past weekend in Hall County.

25-year-old Richard Edward Gieras was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler south on GA-365 when a pickup pulled out in front of him from Belton Bridge Road. A report from Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville says James Garnett Smith, 75, of Lula, failed to yield when turning left onto the highway.

Smith was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. The Jeep struck the truck. After impact, the truck spun out and the Jeep overturned, landing on its top across the southbound lanes of GA-365 South.

Gieras sustained minor injuries. Smith was not injured. The State Trooper cited him for failing to yield after stopping at a stop sign.

The accident happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, July 18, and backed up traffic for miles.

This is at least the third accident on GA-365 South in recent weeks caused by drivers failing to yield while entering the highway, according to the State Patrol. An Alto man was killed last week when a
