Demorest voters will decide in May whether to loosen the city’s liquor laws.
Last night the Demorest Mayor and Council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing a referendum on whether to allow liquor by the drink and Sunday sales.
If approved, the city could issue licenses for the “sale of distilled spirits by the drink and consumption on premises on Sunday,” according to Demorest City Manager Kristi Shead.
A similar referendum was defeated by voters in November of 2015.
This year’s referendum is set for May 22.
