Demorest Fourth of July fireworks back on

After voting unanimously in March to cancel the City of Demorest’s Fourth of July fireworks and then voting in April to bring fireworks to Demorest within the year, the Demorest City Council voted at their June 1 meeting that their Independence Day fireworks are back on.

The council voted 4-0 to celebrate the Fourth of July this year with fireworks, which the community adamantly requested. The city also plans to bring in vendors, host an Independence Day parade and may feature another John King concert.

The firework spectacular may cost the city up to $20,000. However, the city council believes that the price may come down due to the limited space the pyrotechnics team will have to set off fireworks near the Demorest Women’s Club.

The event will take place on Independence Day, which falls on a Sunday this year. Members of the community expressed a need for togetherness and celebration after the COVID-19 pandemic defined 2020, and they believe the city’s Fourth of July is what Demorest, and Habersham county, need.

More details on this event are to come.
