The Demorest City Council approved making repairs to a pavilion in the downtown area and installing a dog park in the Brent Lee Moore Memorial Field.
The downtown pavilion is located beside the Demorest Post Office. According to City Manager Mark Musselwhite, the pavilion was becoming the “city’s blighted property.” The cost for the repairs will be approximately $30,440 according to quotes the city has received.
The repairs will be fairly significant. It will receive new wiring, roofing, trusses, decking, flooring, and concrete.
Councilman Shawn Allen reminded the council that the pavilion will be the location for an event in June. Musselwhite assured Allen that the repairs will be completed before the event.
Councilman Donnie Bennett brought forward the construction of a dog park in the Brent Lee Moore Memorial Field. He explained that the park will be broken into two areas. One area will be for large dogs and another area will be for small dogs.
The city has received a quote for the fencing to construct the dog park in the amount of $7,050.
The council approved both items unanimously.
