Democratic voters in Habersham follow statewide trends in runoff

While less than one percent of Habersham County’s active registered voters participated in Tuesday’s primary election runoff, those who did reflected the wider party’s preferences in all four statewide races.

Georgia state Rep. Bee Nguyen won 87% of the vote in Habersham County in the secretary of state race. She defeated former state representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler, 231 to 12 votes. Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Charlie Bailey also won by wide margins in Habersham, claiming 78% of the 262 votes cast in his race against former Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall.

Both Nguyen and Bailey were backed by Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

Habersham Democratic primary runoff voters also followed the party’s trend in selecting nominees for commissioners of labor and insurance.

Janice Laws Robinson received 70% of the vote for insurance commissioner, defeating Raphael Baker in Habersham 175 to 74 votes.

East Point state Rep. William Boddie’s margin in the race for labor commissioner was much smaller against Atlanta businesswoman Nicole Horn. Boddie narrowly edged out Horn in Habersham, with 52% of the vote, claiming 134 of the 255 votes cast.

Local turnout was .094% with 265 of Habersham County’s 28,093 active registered voters casting ballots in Tuesday’s runoff. Only those who voted Democratic, Nonpartisan, or did not vote in the May 24 primary were eligible to vote.

There were no Republican primary runoffs in Habersham County.
