He was working toward a career as a firefighter. On March 30, Jackson Poole answered his last call.

The 19-year-old from Loganville died in an off-duty automobile crash on U.S. 411 in Oconee County. He was a 2017 graduate of Archer High School and had worked with the Dekalb Fire Department for six months. His father, Fred Poole, is a Captain with the department.

On April 5, emergency personnel in Habersham paid tribute to the aspiring firefighter when he was laid to rest at Yonah Gardens in Demorest.

Poole’s funeral was held at First Baptist Church in Atlanta. From there, a procession escorted his body along the interstate and highways to his final resting place.

The Cornelia Fire Department hoisted an American flag in tribute. Personnel from other units throughout the county staged at various intersections. They blocked traffic so the procession could pass and paid their final respects.
