Authorities say no charges have been filed in connection with a four-vehicle accident on Highway 365 in Cornelia that left one man dead. Sgt. David Lunsford of the Georgia State Patrol says investigators are waiting on the results of a blood alcohol test run on one of the drivers involved in last week’s fatal crash before determining what, if any, charges will be filed.
Test results are still pending for 19-year old Jordan Bohannon of Dewey Rose. Lunsford says blood alcohol tests are standard procedure and there is no indication at this time that alcohol was involved.
25-year old Darrell Grogan of Demorest died when the van he was riding in hit an SUV head-on. Authorities say Bohannon was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Tracker when he merged into traffic, forcing a 2001 Ford Windstar van into the median. The van, driven by 25-year old Rebekah Grogan of Demorest, traveled into the southbound lanes and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. The Tahoe then hit another car. Officials say Grogan’s husband, 25-year old Darrell Grogan of Demorest, was riding in the front passenger seat of the van. He suffered serious injuries and died a short time later at Habersham County Medical Center in Demorest. Rebekah Grogan, who officials say was pregnant at the time of the crash, suffered injuries to her upper body and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Her condition and that of her unborn child have not been released. Four children in the van were also injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment. They are identified as 4-year old Ahlivia Grogan, 2-year old Alexander Grogan and two infants, Allyson Grogan and Nisaiah Springs.
Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell says the driver of the Tahoe, 26-year old Wendy Cragg of Demorest, was also pregnant. She was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition. Three passengers in Cragg’s vehicle were also transported to NGMC. They are identified as 64-year old Tommy Tench of Toccoa, 5-year old Nichali Cragg and 9-year old Autumn Cragg. The driver of the car, 65-year old William Dawson of Duluth, complained of injuries but was not transported.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
