Get ready to fall back. Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 a.m.
Be sure to set your clock back one hour before bedtime this Saturday and, when you do, take time to change the batteries in your smoke alarm, too.
Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says the annual change from daylight saving time to standard time is a good reminder to make sure your smoke alarm is working properly.
“Changing the battery at least once every year and cleaning dust from the device is a simple way to ensure continued protection of your family and your property,” says Hudgens. “Having a working smoke alarm doubles the chances you will survive a fire in your home.”
Last year in Georgia, there were 82 fatal residential fires which resulted in 101 fire fatalities, according to Hudgens’ office. Only nine residences had a working smoke alarm. So far in 2016, fire has claimed the lives of 124 Georgians – 117 of those deaths occurred in either a home or apartment.
