The Dawson County soccer program took a huge step closer to region titles for both the Tigers and Lady Tigers by sweeping Lumpkin County on Good Friday.
The Lady Tigers (10-1-1; 3-0) earned their 10th win in a 3-1 victory over the Lady Indians in Dawsonville on Friday. The game was surrounded by a lot of hype, as Dawson came in ranked #2 in the state, while visiting Lumpkin County (9-3; 3-1) was ranked #5.
Freshman Rachel Rajczak notched a pair of goals in the first half, both incredible shots. Junior Mackenzie Callas added an insurance goal moments after Rajczak’s second. The Lady Indians notched a penalty kick goal, courtesy of Morgan Fagan, just before the break to pull within 3-1.
However, the score remained that way until the final horn. The Dawson win essentially gives it the region 7-AAA title barring any upsets the rest of the way. The same can be said for the #4 Tigers (9-2-1; 3-0), who also won by the same score over a pesky Lumpkin boys team (7-6; 2-2).
The Indians struck first within the first few minutes of the game, but Dawson retaliated with a pair of first half goals from Nathan Blythe and Cole Dennis. The Tigers added an insurance goal in the second half to solidify the win.
