Dawson County volleyball already eclipses win total from first season

For the Lady Tigers volleyball program, this season is already historic, even a mere seven games in.

The Dawson County community didn’t offer volleyball at any level prior to last year, and the Lady Tigers went 3-29 in their inaugural 2016 season. Last year featured just two seniors and only one player who had real volleyball experience.

For head coach Tanya Porter, the improvement over the course of the first year was not quite showing up in the win column. But this year, the Lady Tigers got off to a quick start, winning three games in a row to claim the Mountain Madness Tournament Championship. They won another game following the tourney, and are now 4-3 on the season overall.

Dawson County has five seniors, and although there is still a lot of improving to do for the girls, they’re continuing to gain experience, and have a few surprise players this season.
