Davis joins race for county commission

District 4 Habersham County Commission candidate Trent Davis

Another candidate has entered the race for Habersham County Commission. Trent Davis is running for the District 4 seat currently held by incumbent Natalie Crawford.

Davis, a Republican, is a Habersham County native and former law enforcement officer. He now works for his family’s business, Dockery Heating and Air, in Cornelia. Working in a family business, Davis says he understands how important small businesses are to the county and local way of life. He’s advocating for responsible growth and development.

In his campaign announcement, Davis says he’s against raising taxes. If elected, he vows to work to keep taxes low while providing the necessary county services. He cites maintaining infrastructure, economic development, and managing growth as challenges facing Habersham.

“Trent feels that he can bring fresh new ideas to the table to tackle these issues without placing a burden on the taxpayers of the county,” his announcement says. “He believes in conservative values and is a God-fearing family man.”

A graduate of Habersham Central High School, Davis earned a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Georgia. He worked for the City of Gainesville and then the State Board of Pardons and Parole before returning home to Habersham as a Patrol Officer for the City of Cornelia. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant during his time with the Cornelia Police Department. In 2017, Davis says he ended his career in law enforcement to become a dad.

Davis is an active member and family deacon at Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia. He’s married to Ashley Dockery Davis, and they have one daughter, Lorelai.

Qualifying for the election opens on March 2. Crawford has already announced she’s running for a third term. Demorest attorney Bruce Harkness is also running for the District 4 commission seat.
