David Maxey “Max” Thacker, age 78, of Mount Airy, Georgia, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on September 13, 1946, he was a son of the late James Harry & Estella Shore Thacker. Max lived a life full of faith, love, and kindness. He was a proud graduate of North Habersham High School, Class of 1964 and retired as project coordinator from Hanson Aggregates with over 40 years of dedicated service. Max was a man who put Jesus at the center of his life, guiding his every step with unwavering faith. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he leaves behind a legacy of devotion and strength. Max was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Shore Thacker; sisters & brother-in-law, Mary Cloid & Jack Frye; and Ida Miranda Thacker.
Max was the beloved husband of Gloria Thacker, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership for over 58 years. He was a dedicated father to his daughters, Melissa Wyers (Jim) and Jennifer Thacker, and a proud grandfather to Hannah Wyers and Nick Wyers.
His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. All who knew him will deeply miss Max’s kindness, wisdom, and steady presence. He was a man of integrity, humility, and generosity, always putting others before himself. Whether offering words of encouragement, sharing his faith, or simply lending a helping hand, he lived his life as a true reflection of God’s love. While his family and friends mourn his passing, they take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, rejoicing in the presence of his Savior. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire with Rev. Trent Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
